His interest in sciences led to his study of chemistry at the prestigious Technische Hochschule in Vienna. Following graduation, he joined the faculty. Abel was appointed its first professor in physical chemistry in During his tenure he wrote brilliant papers on homogeneous catalysts and the reactions that occur during the process of making sulphuric acid. With the occupation of Austria by the Nazis he was dismissed from the university, under the Nuremberg Laws, in Abel moved England where he found a position in the research laboratory of the Ever Ready Co.
He rose to become head of the research laboratory, and among his many projects, he worked on the mechanism of the dry battery cell. Abel remained with in his position until his retirement. His flair for writing led him to move into journalism.
Together with Stricker he founded the Zionist daily newspaper the Wiener Morgenzeitung. From he served as director of Keren Hayesod in Amsterdam. Abeles died of exhaustion in , shortly after his liberation from the Nazi concentration camp at Bergen Belsen. Born in Vienna and studied at the University of Vienna, Siegfried Abeles contributed to various journals on pedagogical subjects.

Abeles is the author of numerous other educational works. He also has been chief of instruction to blind Jewish children in Vienna. Paul Wiliam Abeles was born in the town of Mistelbach, near Vienna. His father was a timber merchant and member of the executive committee of the Israelitsche Kultusgemeinde.
